[Reflection Write-up] My understanding of God's sovereignty in human history, in light of recent global events

"Based on what we covered concerning the political history of the Gospels, reflect and share about your understanding of God's sovereignty in human history, especially in light of recent global events."

There are so many things that humans will do to make sure that their life will go smoothly. Humans adopts supernatural, pseudo-sciences, and practical practices such as investments, etc. But when war happens, all these practices did not provide the “security” as human hope to receive. Recent events that I would like to share is the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine and war between Israel and Gaza.

When I reflect on God’s sovereignty in human history, all historical events should point towards God’s redemption grand plan. As the war still going on, we still cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. So, we cannot yet witness whether God’s intention is purification, judgement or reconciliationHowever, these two wars are mentioned in the Bible as a mark of the end time. In Ezekiel 38, some Bible scholars believed that Magog, is the modern-day Russia, who would invade a peaceful and unsuspecting people, which is Ukraine. If this is true, according to the prophecy in the Bible, Russia would eventually invade Israel. As I am writing this reflection, it inspires me to take a little more interest in the current world events. What is happening in the world are already written thousands of years ago in the Book that I have in my bookshelf. I am holding a proof that God has us in mind since thousands of years ago. He orchestrated all the events for His grand purpose.

I would like to backtrack a few decades. In regards to the history of Israel, in Daniel 7:25, it is mentioned that there would be a cruel ruler who would kill many of the God’s people for three and a half years. In 1942, the holocaust took place for three and a half years killing six million Jews. Many believed that Daniel 7:25 is referring to the holocaust event. What is amazing was that the Jews somehow managed to re-gather and eventually Israel became a nation in 1948. However, the prophecy did not end there. Ezekiel 37-38 mentioned about Israel being attacked by a powerful nation. We are witnessing God’s prophecies unfolding right before our eyes.

With all these events, as Christians, we are called to stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” (Luke 21:28)
