What does "Believe In Jesus" really mean?
'On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.'John 7:37-39 https://my.bible.com/bible/114/JHN.7.37-39
In "Believing in Jesus", lies our salvation.
In "Believing in Jesus", makes us the recipient of the Living Water (Holy Spirit).
In "Believing in Jesus", lies our transformation into a new creation.
I always thought that "Believing in Jesus" means that I believe in Jesus Christ. But this morning
as I read the above verse, I realised that I never really think deep about what it means by
"Believing in Jesus". As I ponder about this, I come up with 3 points.
1. Believe in what He said He is
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:15-16)
He said He is the Son, the ONLY Son of the living God. That means, there is no other "sons",
there is no other gods. Believing in Jesus means that we believe Jesus is a Being from other
world who came to earth. It means that we believe that Jesus is the One that the Old Testament
had prophesied. It means that we believe that Jesus is a Supernatural Being.
2. Believe in what He said He is doing
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world
might be saved through him. (John 3:17)
The main reason why Jesus came to earth is to SAVE US sinners. It is necessary, crucial,
a must, that He came to earth and be killed. Because without the shedding of blood, sins are
not cleansed. But this celestial rules is not something we humans can comprehend (not at
the moment at least). So, believing in Jesus means that we believe Jesus came to die for me.
We have to understand here that believing that Jesus died for us (collectively) might not strike
that realization of the truth. He died for me, for you who is reading this. He died for Clarissa,
Ethan, David, Chloe, Suresh, Dina, Jake, John, Winnie, Candy, Fiona, Mona, (state your name
in the comment!). Believing in Jesus means that we believe that the wages of our sins, which is
death, has been paid!
3. Believe in what He said
Read the Bible, everything that He said, we believe it is the truth and absolute truth. But the
most important thing that He said that we have to believe is:
"And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given
among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father
except through me." (John 14:6)
Believing in Jesus means, first and foremost, we believe that He is the only way to God.
We believe in Jesus, we believe in God. We believe in God, we believe in Jesus. The LORD
and Jesus are ONE. We cannot say that we believe in God the creator, but we don't believe
in Jesus.
Perhaps there are many other points that should be added to this article. However, at this
moment, I think that these are the 3 main points to explain what does "Believing in Jesus"
entails.
*If there are any mistakes in my article, please feel free to point it out. I appreciate it if you
could show me biblical proof and convincing explanation to support your theory. This is not
to spark a debate, but it is simply for us to find the truth in the Bible.
