Purpose and Goal of Our Lives
“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31
What is the purpose of our lives? What is the ultimate goal in our life? These are some questions that we frequently asked among Christians.
Majority will say that our main purpose is to make disciples of all nations and baptize them
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20
I always ponder about this and somehow it doesn't sit right with me. Yes I believe that we are called to spread the gospel and make disciples. Basically, we are called to work for God's Kingdom.
But, how about those who are disabled? How about those who can't go out of their home because of health condition or because they have to take care of sickly family members? Does it mean that these people are not living out the purpose that God has for us?
I am not going to be naggy today, instead, today's blog is going to be short and hopefully sweet.
I just had my quiet time with God and was reading a devotional from Our Daily Bread. Today's reading is from Acts 15:36-40. It is about when Barnabas and Paul had a sharp disagreement on whether or not they should take John Mark with them. I was writing a note about how my perspective about "disagreement" have changed recently, due to something that happened in my church. At the end, a thought occurred to me. Disagreements are not necessarily bad and it is inevitable. After all, God makes all of us so different from one another. So, what is the one thing we have in common? If I were to ask you (with all the different opinions, different ways of doing things) what are we ALL called to do ? What is that ULTIMATE calling??
It is to LIVE FOR GOD.
What does it mean to live for God? See the above verse! 1 Corinthians 10:31. In EVERYTHING we do, we do it for God. In conclusion, while our greatest commission is to spread the gospel and make disciple, the ultimate "task" we have on earth is to simply live for God.
