"I go to church for years, but I got nothing"

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness
19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
20For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.                   ~ Romans 1 : 18 - 20

I know someone who personally have told me that he/she went to church for a decade and got nothing. And so now they assumed that there is no such thing as God. And so they switch their focus to themselves, living their life to the fullest, advocating self-love.

I pondered about it for years and personally I feel that it is not their fault for leaving church. It is simply a lack of guidance and teaching.

No one taught them to look at the roof above their heads when they reach home.

No one taught them to look at their shoes on their feet.

No one taught them to look at their pretty clothes they can afford to wear.

No one taught them to look at their loving parents and fun friends.

No one taught them to look up to the sky, the sun, the moon, the stars, the infinite universe.

No one taught them to put their fingers up to their nose, feeling their breath gently blowing on their finger.

No one taught them to press their palm against their chest and feel their own heartbeats.

Most importantly, no one taught them that:
GOD DOES NOT always GIVE YOU THE "FEEL" FOR YOU TO KNOW GOD'S EXISTENCE.

HE HAS MADE KNOWN OF HIS EXISTENCE TO YOU PERSONALLY. Through the things you have, through the things in your body, through the creations on this earth.

We human, expectantly look for a specific experience and feelings when we go to church, in hope of finding God. However, God is not obligated to reveal Himself to us whenever we go to church. He is a GOD! He is not our assistant who will appear at our commands (even your human assistant won't do that everytime). And God would reveal His mysteries as and when He wishes and to those who seek Him and who is willing to listen to Him.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to point out a few things from Romans 1:18-20. The truth is that everyone knows that there is such thing as god. But many humans do not know how to approach god. They only know how to approach god according to the tradition and culture of their home country. People who decided that no such thing as god, it is not that they have found evidence of god's non-existence. Their "wickedness" (means that sinful nature) purposely suppressed the truth. The fact that humans suppresses it, shows that they have seen the truth but decided to shove it under the table.

Verse 19 is really interesting. It says "God has made it plain to them".. I feel silly suddenly. It is put out in plain sight for us, but we choose not to see it. We have to admit that the things around us; the ever-expanding universe, the galaxy, the planets, things happening on earth is so obvious and it cannot be more obvious than that, that there is a Creator behind all this. So what does it tell about us? I think we are being totally ignorant.

In Verse 20, it shows that we are indeed have no excuse for not believing that there is a Creator. It says that ".. have been clearly seen, being understood...". We humans have clearly seen the things God has done and created and most importantly, we have UNDERSTOOD. Now, if we see something, that event gives us knowledge that the event takes place. If we understood it, it is more than mere knowledge. It means that we KNOW and UNDERSTAND the reasoning, the intention and the significance of it. So, it is sad to say that most of us CHOOSE to not follow the One who created us and our planets.
