Jesus Be The Centre of My L̶i̶f̶e̶ Office
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
~ Colossians 3:23-24
I have difficulty in uniting WORK and GOD. When we work, all we can think about is meeting deadline, finishing our tasks, pleasing our immediate supervisor, and even perhaps avoiding the office politics. I don't see how can we involve spiritual and religious stuff in our work. We can place a cross or bible verses on our work desk to "put" God into our work lives. But how can we serve God in our workplace?? God doesn't need you to close the deal, your boss does! God does not need you to mediate office quarrels among your staff, your boss does!
When I come across the above verse today, suddenly it strikes me that God had given us an instruction on how to put God in our corporate lives!
When we are closing a deal, close it as if you need to answer to God. When we are finishing a task, finish it as if you need to answer to God. When we are mediating an office conflict, mediate as if you would eventually need to report to God! When you are making copies of some documents, copy it as if God is the one who asks you to. When you are cleaning the office, clean as if it is God's office! God is your boss! With this attitude, we can consciously put God in the middle of our career.
But what if your office boss is NOTHING like God??? Not understanding, not compassionate, not forgiving and not grateful??
The answer is as follows...
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
~ Romans 13:13
I need to study the above passage a little deeper, before I can come to terms with following what is written in Romans 13, while reporting to a horrible boss. I believe that we are not to follow blindly whatever our boss tells us to do, especially if it involves doing something immoral or sinful. The passage in Romans 13 require deeper understanding of the background situation when the letter was written and wisdom to connect that to our prevailing rules in our society.
Until then.. God bless you!
