Finding Treasure

 PROVERBS 2 (New International Version)

Moral Benefits of Wisdom
1 My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,

5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.

This answer my question "Why is it hard to find God?"

First of all, this WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING is attached to GOD. We can't gain wisdom and understanding without having God in our life. And "having God in our life" is not as straight forward as it sounds. But that is a topic for another day.

To find God, we need to "look for it as for silver and ... as for hidden treasure".. What is the percentage of chance that we find a treasure? I don't know the number exactly, but it is low for sure. This sentence is not to be misconstrued as "God is difficult to find like how a treasure is difficult to find". This sentence means that we must find God as if we are finding treasure.

This reminds me of Romans 3:11
"...there is no one who seeks God."

The true nature of humankind is that they won't initiate the journey to find God, unless they need God. God is hard to find not because He is hard to find, but because it is hard for human to WANT to find God. To be honest, even self-proclaimed Christians, don't find God as one finding a treasure.

How I wish there is a way to make people realise that they need God, no matter what situation and circumstance they are in.

But if you are reading this, and find Proverbs 2, just a tad intriguing, know that you have received a gift from God. To pause in this Proverbs 2, means that your heart is changing. We need wisdom and understanding, not only for church works, not only when you are serving people, but it is for everyday life. The world is full of Puzzles, confusion, riddles : how to navigate daily life, how to speak with one's colleague, how to choose life partner, how to choose a house, how to parent your child, how to serve your spouse, how to love your parents and in-laws, how to respond to your boss's nasty remarks, etc.

And WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING, comes with a guided life with God.

Let us yearn it, desperately want it, beg for it, then we will see the glory of God.
