READY, GET SET! walk…..

When I encountered God and the power of His Spirit back in 2017, I was so fired up for God that I "run" after God all the time and I run hard! I made sure that I portray the best form and posture of A God's disciple. I had a burden for "lukewarm" Christians and I even tried to talk sense into some of the Christians I know, to be more fired up for God, to be eventually, like me! But it didn't go well, because I realised that we cannot simply talk sense into people. That is not how we convince people. And most importantly, I realised that I was disgustingly prideful. God is always good, He reminded me that I was acting far from humble, which is one of the most important trait of a true follower of Jesus Christ.

Today, I am not discussing about humility. Let's have that another time. I want to share about "walking with God".

Being fired up for God is a good thing. For me, I got exhausted after a few months of "running" after God. I feel tired for trying to be a good Christian all the time. Because that was not me. Yes, God did planted in me a different Spirit, but my old me will stay as much as I am not willing to let it go. It is a process to denounce our old self. You said the sinner's prayer, "something something something… I want to invite Jesus into my life, in Jesus Name I pray, Amen"… Bam! errmmmm…. Is that a dove over your head? Is your face glowing in white? Well…. No… nothing miraculous will happen the second after your sinner's prayer. I take it back, there is 1 miracle that will happen, which is, God's Spirit will enter you and reside in you. You can't feel it though. I am not going to discuss that, but for your curiosity, here is why you can't feel the Holy Spirit (99% of the time):

And she said, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" So he awoke from his sleep, and said, "I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!" But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him.   ~Judges 16:20

Back to the topic. God knows what we are made of. We are not built to be a super human, (we are given an access to supernatural strength though). So, when we accepted Christ, we have to remember our basic spiritual needs. Read the Bible, Pray, faithfully meet up with other believers. But what else should we do? Should we immediately serve in our Church? Well, yes, if you have the ability and the means. Should we take up Bible course? Go to Theology school? Erm.. if you have the interest, the burden, the money and the ability, go ahead. Should we go for mission trip? Well.. it is good to go. There are more examples, but besides reading the Bible, pray, and community, I believe that there are no other compulsory activity that you need to do. I am not saying that we do not have to go for mission trips, go for Bible study etc. I am trying to say that all those won't make you becoming a  "more" Christian than others who don't!

Let me give you an example:

Enoch. Genesis 5:22, 24
After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters.

And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.

There is no other account of Enoch, beside these few verses. He "walk with God". It simply means he OBEYED GOD.

God does not ask us to do mighty things. Since the book of Genesis, God asks us to be obedient, live by His rules so that we can live life to the fullest. Before we take pride in our efforts for outreach, missionary work, increasing our knowledge about the Bible and God, let us take a look at how well we walk with God.

So, what is walking with God means?

I will continue that, at the next blog post….

Thank you for reading! Have a good walk with God!

Let's pray
Thank You Lord for loving us. You know us inside out, You know us even before we are born. Help me to walk with You faithfully. Grant us Samuel's ear that we may hear Your soft voice. Grant us wisdom to discern for Your will for us. I pray that You give us courage to carry out what You have entrusted to us. Help us to love those around us and teach us to love You even more. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen
