[Bite-Size Sermon] GRATEFULNESS

Proverbs 27 : 7
One who is full loathes honey from the comb,
but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.

Matthew 5:3
“Blessed are [Isa. 61:1; 66:2]the poor in spirit, for [Luke 12:32] theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:6
“Blessed are those who hunger and Ps. 42:2; Isa. 55:1, 2; John 7:37 thirst 2 Tim. 2:22; [ch. 6:33] for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

When I read Proverbs 27:7, somehow it reminds me of the Beautitudes. When we are hungry for God, whatever God throw to us, will "taste sweet". When we are "full", not wanting more, we won't even appreciate the good things God gives.

I think the word to describe this is "gratefulness".

People who think they do not need God are the people who are "full". They won't even appreciate having a roof over their heads, they won't even appreciate having a job, they won't even appreciate having a supportive family and friends. They feel that their life needs more. More money, more money, and more money.

On the other hand, people who are hungry, is grateful for even the simplest thing.

Happiness is not based on the property, belongings and circumstances that we have and are in, but happiness is a state of mind.

People who are "hungry" will be satisfied and happy in life. While people who are "full" won't be satisfied no matter how much they "eat".
