New Living Translation
2 Timothy 3:16
"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right."
I am sure you have come across an experience where you read a same passage at different point in life and that same passage speaks to you, eventhough you are going through different life events.
Last time, I remembered that people often told me that the Bible is not that Spirit-filled/ able to talk to us. We simply take in what we want to take in at that point in time. That means, the same passage contains a few sentences. So when I have problem A, I will just read the sentence that applicable to me. Then when I have problem B, I just read the sentence that applicable to what I am going through and then we go "ah ha!! this is the sign from God. This one speaks to me very loudly".
I have been pondering about that and trying to find an explanation how to answer these doubts.
I have no divine explanation for the experience, except "Isn't that simply amazing?!"
To have something in your hands that you can refer anytime for DIFFERENT KINDS OF PROBLEMS.
Imagine that one chapter from one book, already contains many advices for many different problems. Imagine how much more advice and guidance you can draw from, from the WHOLE BIBLE!
Read your Bible! From the front to the back. The Holy Spirit will remind you which verse to refer back to, when you are facing certain difficulties, problems, trials, or at a cross-road. The Holy Spirit is here to remind us what Jesus has taught us.
But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
John 14:26
Do you think I can quote all the bible verses because I memorized them? Not at all. I can quote them because I read it once, and the Holy Spirit reminded me of those verse, and (thank God for internet) I go to Google and type the key phrase and BOOM! I got the Bible verse.
Bible verses are soooo important for us to know. In fact, if there is no internet now, we should bring the bible everywhere we go! I don't think anyone can emphasize the importance of knowing the Bible. YOU HAVE TO KNOW.
Unless you have confidence that you won't be facing problems in life, start reading the Bible. Equip yourself. You don't have to finish in one year. You can read a chapter a day and finish in 3 years. Start now. DO NOT DELAY!
