Exodus 15

When I read Exodus 15:22-25, I learned that God wants us to come to Him in times of trouble. God knows everything. God knows what the Israelite went through in the desert. Why didn't God automatically provide water when they couldn't find any? Why God had to wait until they ask for water? And lastly, what strikes me about this passage is that, why didn't the Israelite asked for water after one day not being able to find any?

Fast forward to today, we too expect God to automatically pull us out of trouble. We assume that since God knows what is happening, He would have saved us. But in actual fact, God wants us to ASK! By asking, it shows humility, it shows dependence on God. We are attributed with humanly wisdom and capabilities. But we are not expected to act beyond our capabilities. Not that we are not to try. If humans does not try to expand our capabilities, we won't have all this technology. What I am trying to say is that there are certain things that we know for sure are out of our capabilities. We are not to act smart and proud, saying that we can handle it. ASK God to handle it!

He said, “If you listen carefully to the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.”
                                                                                      ~Exodus 15:26

The word "listen" in Hebrew, means hear attentively and obey it. It does not mean merely letting the sound waves enter your ear and hit the ear drum. (Explanation taken from "The Bible Project").

And interesting fact: "LORD" word which is all in capital letter, refers to the personal name of our God!

What God wants from us:
1. Listen (which means listen and obey) to God.
2. Do what is right in God's eyes
3. Pay attention to His commands.
4. Keep ALL His decrees. (not 1 or 2 out of 10 commandments)

Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water.
                                                                                    ~Exodus 15:27

Because the Israelite needed water, so God provided them with 12 springs and trees for water and shelter. God really spoils those whom He has favor on. Imagine 12 springs in the middle of a desert! He gave not 1, not 2, but 12 springs! When He gives, He gives abundantly, according to His riches.

1 advice to take on today:
GET ON THE GOOD SIDES OF GOD!

Exodus 15:22-25
22Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water. 23When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.15:23 Marah means bitter.) 24So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”
25Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink.
