Walking with God

Christianity is full of ambiguous instructions; "you have to be filled with the Spirit", "you must learn how to discern the Spirit", "fix your eyes on Jesus", "put Jesus first", etc.... Do you wish we have clearer instructions to follow? An instruction that we can fully understand.

Well.. I am going to attempt it today. Here goes...

WALKING WITH GOD means:

1. Obey the Ten Commandments : Click here for the Bible passage
    I. Do not worship other gods.
    II. Do not use the Lord's name in vain (respect God's name)
    III. Keep the Sabbath holy (it means, "take a break! for goodness' sake)
    IV. Honor your father and mother.
    V. Do not murder
    VI. Do not commit adultery
    VII. Do not steal
    VIII. Do not give false testimony against others (do not lie)
    IX. Do not covet other people's spouse
    X. Do not covet other people's belongings
Note: This is the most basic instructions and most of us already have trouble in keeping them. Simply because some of them have no legal consequences. But as a Christian, our "Police" is An All-seeing and Omnipresent. So, love and respect our God by abiding in these basic laws.

2. Talk to God
I am sure most of us talk to our loved ones, friends, colleagues on daily basis. We get to know someone by spending time with them, talking to them. Imagine yourself with your boyfriend or girlfriend. You went out on a date, had a good time, and when you reached home, what do you do? You called your lover and chat some more (sorry for the singlish) on the phone. Why? because you want to spend time with them as long as you can. Even if you cannot see the person, you will make time to call them on the phone or text them. Let's be realistic here.. many of us (I am talking to the Christians), do not love God. In our defense, we are human beings, it is difficult to love someone whom we never see or met before! But God is good, He came down in human form so that we have this human figure that we can envision in our mind when we think about God. Just think it this way, we might not be able to feel that we love God now, but if you "force" yourself to talk to God daily, I guarantee you, you will know God better and can't help but to fall in love with God. And eventually, you will be excited to talk to God. And another thing to think about, we don't love God, but He loves us so much that is beyond our comprehension. He WANTS to talk to us.. But if you don't "call" Him, how can He have a chat with us. So, let's dial in and have a chat with God.

Oh! I just remembered! Recently, I learned that many Christians do not know how to pray. They feel weird because they feel like they are talking to themselves and further more, they simply do not know what to say.

• So for starter: close your eyes and do not say your prayer out loud, but say it in your heart. This way, you won't be talking to yourself. 
• Secondly, start by praising God for who He is. "Lord, you are our King, Lord of lords and there is no one like You. Everything on earth is Yours. Even the winds and the sea obey Your commands. You created this universe, the sun, the moon, the planets and they are beautiful". 
• And you can go on to thank God, "Thank You for Your breath of life that You breathe unto me that I may live to see this day. Thank You for the roof over my head, the clothes that I wear and the loving family that You give me." 
• If you have any guilt that you want to let go, you can say it to God. God forgives. 
• And last but not least, anything that You want God to help you or other people, say it now. That's it! You have prayed!

3. Read the BIBLE

Reading the Bible is another means to know about God. The Bible is a historical records about God's love and His personality. Bible is His biography. Take time to read it. If 1 chapter a day is difficult, start with 5 verses a day. You have no time for 5 verses? Then how about 1 verse a day? We simply have no excuse to skip this step. We are very blessed to be born in an era that Bible is available so easily (from shops, online, even free app). If you are from a country that does not allow Bible, do not worry, just continue to talk to God, God will reveal Himself through your surroundings. 

4. Do good

Be a good person. Help those around you. Do not harbour bad evil thoughts, because once that evil thoughts enter your heart, it will show in your actions, and you cannot take back that action, you can't take back the words that came out of your mouth. One thing that I feel strongly against, do not talk bad about other people. You yourself have many bad points. What makes you think that you are better than the person you gossip about? 

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY NICE THINGS TO SAY, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT

5. Community of believers

It is important to plant yourself in a supportive, God-loving community. They will be able to encourage you, spur you on doing good works and be an advisor and supporters. It is not easy to find, therefore, ask God for help. Ask God to point you to the direction that you should go. 

ALL OF CHRISTIANS MUST HAVE SOMEONE TO BE ACCOUNTABLE TO. Even pastors, priests, church leaders and even the Pope.

Let's Pray

Thank You Lord for coming down to Earth to save us, to teach us Your words and to set us an example on how we should live. We want to pray that You will help us to love You deeper, know You better. I pray that You continue to mold us into Christ's likeness. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen!
