One small step for you, one giant leap for your soul
8 Now the king of Aram was at war with Israel. After conferring with his officers, he said, “I will set up my camp in such and such a place.”
9 The man of God sent word to the king of Israel: “Beware of passing that place, because the Arameans are going down there.” 10 So the king of Israel checked on the place indicated by the man of God. Time and again Elisha warned the king, so that he was on his guard in such places.
11 This enraged the king of Aram. He summoned his officers and demanded of them, “Tell me! Which of us is on the side of the king of Israel?”
12 “None of us, my lord the king,” said one of his officers, “but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom.”
13 “Go, find out where he is,” the king ordered, “so I can send men and capture him.” The report came back: “He is in Dothan.” 14 Then he sent horses and chariots and a strong force there. They went by night and surrounded the city.
15 When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked.
16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
17 And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
2 Kings 6 : 8-17
All of us during our walk with God, would certainly met with a situation where we simply cannot see our way out. Have you ever watch a movie, when at the last fighting scene, the good guy is losing and you simply say in your heart, "how is he going to get out of this one?" or "I think the good guy is going to lose". Just then, you see the main actor had some revelations or found some extra strength to pick himself up and punched the h**l out of the bad guy.
Our life with God, is no different from the movie. When we trust God, God will make a way for us. He will give us His strength, give us His Spirit to fight our way out of our struggles and pain. You only need to call out to Him!
But how are we going to do just that?
Our faith is so tiny because we cannot see Him, we cannot see His grand plan, we cannot comprehend His power and we are not even sure whether God is watching us or not. Maybe He is too busy taking care of matters for His other servants that are more worthy to be helped. Isn't that what is on your mind right now?
If you are one of those who feel that God is too busy for you, say this prayer:
"In Jesus Name, I command you, satan, to leave me! I have been made worthy when Jesus died and atoned my sins. I am God's child and I WANT to be God's child. Holy Spirit, I invite you to come into my life and give me the faith of just a mustard seed. Teach me how to trust You, teach me how to depend on You. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen!"
Like the movie Divergent, when the first test for the Dauntless factions is to jump into a large dark hole, many of the dauntless are afraid to jump, because they cannot see what is below and they feel pretty sure they are going to die if they jump. But the next scene, we see Beatrice jumped first and we found out that at the bottom, there is a large net to break the fall.
It is exactly the same as trusting God. God ask us to take that small step of faith. You just need to take a small step forward and God will do the rest. God won't reveal His plan for you before you "jump into the hole of faith". God wants you to have faith in Him. By "jumping", you are proclaiming to God that You are ready to trust Him. God will give you His Spirit to give you power and faith to do His works. Oh.. when you finally see His true intention for you, you will not stop thanking God. You will be overwhelmed by His love and generosity.
I want to leave you with my favorite verse :
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11
Self-Reflect:
1. What step of faith you are convicted to take right now?
2. What is stopping you?
Let's Pray
Dear God, I want to trust You, I want to have faith in You and I want to follow You. I do not know what to do and I am afraid O'Lord. I pray for your assurance and your peace to dwell in my heart. Please give me Your strength that I will be courageous to jump into the "hole of faith". I trust and believe that You are at the bottom, ready to catch me. I believe that You will never forsake me and I believe that You are always watching over me. You never sleep, You never take your eyes away from me. Let me come into Your presence to withdraw Your strength and courage. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen!
Writer's Note: I heard people say that they feel God is looking away from them. That God is not looking at them. They feel that God is currently turned away from them. I honestly think that you cannot feel God, is not because He is turned away from you. IT IS YOU who looked away. God is looking at you, but you turn your back away from HIM! Turn around and you will see God is actually looking at you all the time. He never let you out of His sight.
