New Creation!
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
1 Peter 1:3-9
Every Christians will come to a point when they got "reborn". Born-again Christians, we call them. But what does it mean?
When we say the "sinners' prayer", we proclaimed to the world that we decided to follow Jesus. It does not matter what you call yourself; Christian Methodist, Christian Anglican, Catholics, etc. What matters is YOU DECIDED TO FOLLOW JESUS.
So what happens after you said the sinners' prayer? God let you turn to a "FETUS". You will be in the "womb", which is His church, molded and growing to prepare for your "birth". In the "womb" you will be under God's protection, but it does not mean that you cannot get hurt. Like a fetus in the womb, when a mother ate something wrong or exposed to a certain virus, the fetus will get sick as well. Therefore, it is very important to choose the correct Church (that is a different topic altogether). If the Church is feeding themselves with the Words of God and keep their focus on Jesus, you, the "fetus" will grow well and healthy.
Like how a baby came out of the mother's womb at an unpredictable time, people who are born of the Spirit also born at an unpredictable time.
"The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." John 3:8
At God's appointed time, He will let you be reborn when you are ready to see the world. God will turn you to a new creation. He will send His Spirit to be with you all the time, to teach you and guide you as you grow to be a matured Christian. God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit will live in you! Take note that when you got reborn, it does not mean that you are already a good person. In fact, you are still a sinner. God saves us while we are still a sinner! How gracious He is!
"like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation," 1 Peter 2:2
After you are reborn, you will see God, experience Him, assured of your salvation that has been reserved for you. You will rejoice in your salvation in happiness you cannot explain. You no longer walk in the path you walked before. You will hate sins, you will not desire the things of this world anymore. You will be hungry for God. You will understand God and His words like you never before. Every Words you read in the Bible, you can finally understand what it means and how it apply to you. The experience with God will be so addictive, when you enter His presence, you will keep asking for more! You will desire to be with Him all the time.. You will finally find LOVE for GOD. When you find love for God, you will find love for His people. You will suddenly be changed into a whole new person, literally.
Writer's note:
What it feels like to be reborn? For me, I woke up one day and I felt so "clean", like as if I just got out of a shower. The feelings is very obvious, and undeniable. My heart especially, feels "new". I don't know how to describe it. I am sure you know what I am talking about :) And suddenly I felt so happy about my life, I feel complete, and the obvious change in me are, I feel hungry for God's words. I want to read the Bible all the time, now I can pray for 1 hour or more, and I desire to pray for others. I have compassion for God's people all of a sudden. I do not feel as provoked like before. Before that day, I actually hate Christians and I hate people. I always brewing thoughts in my head on how I can hurt them with my words. Yes it is that bad. But God is gracious and loving. He saves me and let me reborn in spite of my sins. I used to be afraid of death because honestly, I do not know whether Heaven is real or not, eventhough I have been a Christian all my life. But after the rebirth experience, God gives me an undeniable feeling of assurance that I am going to Heaven! Now, I am eagerly waiting for His coming!
Self-Reflect
1. Where am I spiritually? Fetus stage? Toddler stage? Adult stage?
2. What is the one thing that God has been asking you to do, that you have not done? Disobedience can stall your spiritual growth.
Let's Pray!
Dear God, thank you for your grace and love that You saved us while we are still a sinner. We know how much You hate sin, but because You love us so much, You came down to earth to eat with us sinners and to grant us salvation through your victory over death. We trust in You and we believe that You are the Son of God and the only way to eternal life. Let the Holy Spirit live in us to teach us how to love you and how to love others. We want to follow you and we want to declare that we no longer want to controlled by sin and Satan. Teach us your ways, teach us to be humble, teach us to be Your Child. In Jesus' Name I pray. Amen!
