"Useful Vessel" by Mairangi Bay Community Church

Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” I came across a beautiful, inspiring and powerful article by Mairangi Bay Community Church about how God chooses people to work for Him. I strongly recommend all of you to read it. The link is provided below. I will try to summarise it for today's devotional reading. God calls all Christians to do His works. There are no Christian that are meant to say the Sinner's Prayer and that's it. We have missions to do. However, to actually do His works, there are many steps. We need to constantly grow in our spiritual maturity, we need to read the Bible a lot, we need to learn how to listen to the Holy Spirit, we need to learn to be willing. And for God's part, He has a certain criteria for people whom He can use as a "vessel" or an instrument of God. 1. Proximity (Accessibility and availability) We are the vessel, and God is the...

Be United

1 Corinthians 1:10-13  I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas ”; still another, “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?  We all agree that the end time is here. But most of us, I mean the Christians, are not doing anything about it. "Ya I know we are living in the end times now, we should pray more often". But they go back to their busyness, gossiping, partying, and forget about God. If you look at what is happening around the world, you can see that people are getting more evil. Why? Because the devil knows th...

Good Vs Evil

Ephesians 4 - Instructions for Christian Living 25   Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully  to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.   26   “In your anger do not sin":  Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,   27   and do not give the devil a foothold.   29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.  31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Just yesterday, my neighbour's 5 year old son came over to my house to play with my kids. While I wasn't looking, my neighbour's son was not happy about some game they are playing and he started to wrestle with my 4 year old daughter and held her down by the ...

I Never Knew You

Matthew 7:21-23 English Standard Version (ESV) 21  “Not everyone who  says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will  enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who  does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22  On that day  many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not  prophesy in your name, and cast out demons  in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’   23  And then will I declare to them, ‘I  never knew you;  depart from me,  you workers of lawlessness.’ We read the above passage many times but we usually brush it aside. Because it is too difficult to comprehend. How can we get rejected to enter the Kingdom of Heaven if we have the gift and power to prophesy, cast out demons and do many mighty works in Jesus Name?!  Relax.. do not get anxious now... we have time to fix it, if there is anything to fix. We'll take one matter at a time.  So, now we know that by having the gift to prophesy, cast out...

Hardworking Vs Reluctant Christians

Read : Proverbs 13 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and  hath  nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat. (KJV Proverbs 13:4) The book of Proverbs is full of wise instructions on how to live our life as a Christian. I encourage you to read the whole Proverbs 13. But I want to focus on one matter today.  There are 2 types of Christians : The "hardworking" ones and the "reluctant" ones. I am in no position to say which one will enter the Kingdom of God and honestly I do not know. Because I am not a God. But I know one thing, God will ask us to present or give account of what we did while we are on Earth. So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. Romans 14:12 You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt?  For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.   Romans 14:10 No one has the right to condemn or judge "reluctant" Christians. YOU, once were lik...

Silence and Be Still

He says, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Psalm 46:10 The reason why we cannot hear God today, it is because our life is full. Full of thoughts about work, about children, about spouse, about parents, in-laws, boss, and the list goes on. Our mind seldom goes blank. There are groups of people who teaches meditation for spiritual and emotional healing. For us Christians, I strongly encourage meditation, but during meditation, do not leave your mind empty, because that is when the devil love to whispers negative things to you. Instead, meditate on God's words. Today I would like to share some practical tips on how to "rest in the Lord". Read the Bible Set aside a time and a place to read the Bible. You do not have to read 5 chapters a day, you don't need to read 1 chapter a day even. Read a partial passage, or a few verses. There is no point in reading 10-20 chapters a day if yo...

8  Then the  Lord  said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job?  There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God  and shuns evil.” 9  “Does Job fear God for nothing?”  Satan replied.   10  “Have you not put a hedge  around him and his household and everything he has?  You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.   11  But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has,  and he will surely curse you to your face.” 12  The  Lord  said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has  is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the  Lord . Job 1:8-12 All religions never promise their followers a life full of flowers. Not even for Christianity. You will be met with struggles, temptations and tests. But what I am going to s...

Irony: Money will chase you when you don't want it

6  Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.   7  Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give,  not reluctantly or under compulsion,  for God loves a cheerful giver.   8  And God is able  to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need,  you will abound in every good work.   9  As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts  to the poor;      their righteousness endures forever.” [ a ] 10  Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food  will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.   11  You will be enriched  in every way so that you can be generous  on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9:6-11 ...
